(www.cfsd.org.uk/aede)
Funded by: European Commission's Asia Pro Eco Programme
**FREE CONFERENCE**
Background
Asian electronics, electrical and home appliance companies are increasingly
being impacted by environmental and social issues. These developments have
significant implications for manufacturers and assemblers in tier 1 and
beyond, especially those that supply to Japanese, American or European
transnational companies. As a result, Asian companies are facing a growing
number and range of customer enquiries covering compliance with
environmental laws and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) issues,
particularly on product-related environmental issues such as eco-design,
materials reduction, energy efficiency, reduced toxicity and recyclability.
The strongest driver at present is:
. EU: Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive
But others are likely to have stronger influence in the future:
. EU: Waste from Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive
. EU: Energy Using Products (EuP) Directive
. EU: Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH)
Directive
. EU: Green Procurement Plans
. US: Electronics Industry Code of Conduct (EICC)
. Japan: Law for the Promotion of Effective Utilisation of Resources
(LPEUR)
. Japan: Home Appliance Recycling Law (HARL)
. Japan: Green Purchasing Law (GPL)
Concept
Asia Eco-Design Electronics Conference will launch four new studies on
Europe/Japan, Thailand, India and China. The Europe/Japan report explores
the top-down implications of the impacts of green laws and CSR trends for
the Asian electronics supply chain and the country studies examine
awareness and capacity to deal with the challenges particularly in the area
of eco-design. The afternoon sessions will discuss the impact of both
existing and future environmental laws and CSR issues on Asian suppliers -
highlighting both the risks and opportunities.
Benefits of attending Asia-Eco-Design Electronics Conference will include:
* New research
* Free reports
* Access to leading-edge thinking
* New ideas and opportunities
* Networking and connections
The event will be of particular interest to transnational companies in the
electronics, electrical and home appliance sectors that have Asian
suppliers and facilities, as well as other manufacturers, assemblers,
entrepreneurs, consultants, academics and government officials.

The overall goal of AEDE is to assist Asian electronics, electrical and
home appliances suppliers to meet the challenges of existing and
forthcoming EC and Japanese product-related environmental legislation and
emerging CSR developments. AEDE has delivered conferences to over 200
delegates in Thailand, India and China and will produce a range of reports,
tools and a project website (www.cfsd.org.uk/aede). AEDE is led by The
Centre for Sustainable Design (UK) with partners being Electrical and
EIectronics Institute (Thailand), Renmin University of China (China),
ELCINA Electronic Industries Association of India (India), Rajiv Gandhi
Foundation (India) and Linkoping University (Sweden).
