Sustainable Innovation: Building & Construction Technologies
10th November 2006
Bush Hotel Conference Centre
Farnham
Surrey
Organised by: The Centre for Sustainable Design
(www.cfsd.org.uk)
Sponsored by: South-East England Development Agency (SEEDA)
Background
The UK Sustainable Development Strategy [SDS] (see
http://www.sustainable-development.gov.uk) launched on 7th March 2005
highlighted a range of issues related to sustainable products, design and
innovation - see Chapter 3. This coupled with the growing government
interest in sustainable public procurement means that creating, designing
and developing techologies, products and services with lower material and
energy consumption will be of increasing importance.
Building and construction is in the front-line of the debate - with the
sector contributing over 40% of greenhouse gas emissions. This means
that greener, low carbon solutions will increasingly be demanded in the
future.
This means that new thinking will be required.
Incorporating sustainable innovation into product and process development
provides a range of benefits for companies:
* Lower compliance costs
* Cost savings
* Opportunities for innovation
* Reduced use of materials
* Reduced energy consumption
* Improved corporate and brand reputation
The Centre for Sustainable Design (www.cfsd.org.uk) will facilitate a high
quality discussion on both the obstacles to sustainable innovation in the
building and construction sector and importantly the emerging
opportunities. The leading-edge speakers will provide their visions about
future challenges and business opportunities for sustainable innovation and
design.
The event will be of interest to all those interested in products,
innovation and sustainability and will include developers, builders,
contractors, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, consultants, architects,
designers, government, housing associations annd academics.
Benefiits to delegates will include:
* Leading-edge thinking: speakers will present emerging global trends, new
research and 'state the of art' developments
* New ideas: presentations will highlight potential business oportunities
* Networking: the event will bring together decision-makers and specifers
from the public and private sectors
