EXCUSE ANY CROSS POSTINGS
Eco-design 06
19th June 2006
Waverley Abbey
Farnham
Surrey
UK
Conference organised by: seeba (www.cfsd.org.uk/seeba)
In association with: EC funded Asia Eco-Design Electronics
(www.cfsd.org.uk/aede) project
Sponsored by: SEEDA
**seeba is the electronics programme of The Centre for Sustainable Design**
Background
Eco-design has been treated by many companies as peripheral to their main
product launch activities, except for perhaps some of the large
multinational companies. With the implementation of the Energy using
Products (EuP) Directive plus the combined impact of the European,
Californian, Chinese and Korean other environmental legislation covering
products this approach will no longer work in the future. Failure to
implement eco-design into the product design and launch documented
management system will prevent products being put on the market in Europe
and South-East Asia as the different legislation is implemented.
The EuP Directive will have the biggest impact of any European Directive on
the way companies launch their products. It will fundamentally change the
design process and require major changes to company management systems.
This conference will explore these impacts and what companies can do to
prepare for it in a practical and cost effective manner. We are fortunate
to have assembled some of the prime movers in this area to present at the
conference. They will cover how the EuP is being implemented, case studies,
implementing eco-design and the technical and organisational challenges,
tools that can be used.

Smart eco-Design: training programme
seeba (www.cfsd.org.uk/seeba) at The Centre for Sustainable Design has
developed a flexible ten module eco-design training programme aimed at
electronics and other manufacturing companies. The course is based on
seeba's experience of over eight years in the green electronics area and
feedback from over 1500 delegates to conferences and workshops nationally
and internationally. seeba's knowledge is also supplemented by its links to
leading-edge research and development at www.cfsd.org.uk.
The course is designed to prepare companies for the threats and
opportunities related to the Waste from Electrical Electronic Equipment
(WEEE), Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
Directives and the forthcoming Framework for Design of Energy Using
Products Directive (EuP) which will require companies to embed eco-design
into their design and product development processes before they can put
their products on to the market within the European Union (EU).
Benefits to delegates
